FLOODLIGHTING IN LONDON.
RUGBY, August 26. Preparations for the floodlight illumination of the principal London buildings during the next month in connection with the triennial International Uluriiinntion Congress and the Michael Faraday Centenary celebrations are nearing completion. Buckingham Palace is among the buildings to be lighted, which include "Westminster Abbey, the Big Ben tower, the National Gallery, the Nelson Column, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and the Tower Bridge.
Kokatahi Football Club are entertaining the Wataroa footballers at a dance in the Public Hall on Saturday evening. The Gael from Wellington arrived at Greymouth at 2.50 this morning. As soon as the sea moderates she comes on to Hokitika to load for Bruce Bay and Okuru.
The Lucky Bird Art Union of £4OOO closes to-morrow night. There are ] 0-3 prizes ranging from £5 to £2OOO. Tickets 2s 6d each may be secured from Mr A. Lawn, the local agent up to 10 o’clock on Saturday evening. —Advt.
(Skating was in progress at the Drill Hall ast night when in conjunction with Mr Furlong and Fernhill skating rink of Grevmouth, there was a good attendance and a fine assortment of skates was provided. The rink will be open again to-day.
