WRESTLING

MoDOUGALL WINS.

(By Telegraph—Per Press Association) AUCKLAND, Auugst 24. There was a large attendance at the Auckland Town Hall last night, on the occasion of a professional heavyweight wrestling contest between Scotty McDougall, the Scotch Canadian grappler, and “Rocky Marshall, heavyweight champion of Portugal. The contest was a fine ex-, hibition of clever hard wrestling, shorn of all the showmanship, which has crept into the mat game in New Zealand, and which has a decided tendency to make the game unp'ipnlar. Marshall proved himself a clever grappler and a- real artist aft the short-arm scissors, which hold he applied better than any wrestler yet seen on the Auckland mat. The contest was won on points by McDougall at the end of the scheduled eight rounds, each man then having a fall to his credit. Air Charlie Pollard was referee.

The letter was considered by the City Council to-night. The Mayor said that he had asked the police to see that the rules and regulations were strictly complied with. If they were not the Council would take drastic action. It was not proposed to take other steps This was agreed to.
