Ou July 21, Alexander James Churton, and Herbert Barrington left Christchurch in a car intending L travel up the East Coast across to Reef ton to get work. However they did not reach their destination for on the trip the pair committed a series of thefts at various places, to which they pleaded guilty and were commit' , ted for sentence in. the Wellington Supreme Court, Barrington also pleaded guilty to several thefts at Christchurch. ,7
