ADDINGTON STOCK SALE

CHRISTCHURCH, August 19.

The range of prices was lower at to-day’s live stock sale at Addington. There was a slightly smaller yarding of fat cattle than last wecic's double market, but it was more than sufficient for requirements. Heavy steer beef showed a considerable drop in value as against heifers and cows, lighter cattle selling much better proportionally. Many North IslanTT cattle ; heavy and well finished, met a disappointing sale. There was an easing tendency all round. Best heavy steers made up to £l4 12s 6d, heavy £ll 5s to £l2 15s, prime £9 15s to £ll ss, medium £7 to £8 7s 6d, light from £5 15s; best heifers to £l2 2s 6d, prime £7 15s to £lO ss, medium £5 5s to £6 15s; best heavy cows to £lO 12s fid, prime £7 5s to £8 15s, medium £4 10s to £5 10s, light from £2 os. About six thousand store sheep, were yarded, mostly ewes. The market opened on a slightly lower basis, but improved as the attendance increased. All the young ewes met a ready sale. The older ones met an irregular sale. There was a large yarding of fat sheep. The standard of quality was good. The market opened at fair, average values, and maintained these until the closing stages, when a decrease was noticeable especially with heavier sheep. . Fjxtra heavy prime wethers sold up to 21s 7d, prime heavy 19s to 20s, prime . 17s to 18s,. medium: 15s to Ifis. light from 12s. Best heavy ewes sold up to 20s lOd, prime heavy 17s to 18s. p'irno 15s to lfis, medium Ifi* to 14s. light from 8s 6d. There was a medium yarding of fat pigs. The market opened with fair values, with a hardening tendency. Porkers sold from 35s to 40s, heavier 41s to 46s fid,, haconers 50s to 555, heavier 51s to £3 os. extra to £3 17s fid. Competition was good for store pigs.
