OBITUARY

REV. ROBERT WOOD. WELLINGTON, August 11. There passed away at h'is residence 316, Ivarori Road, toAlay, the Rev. Robert Wood, a very well-known Presbyterian minister in Wellington. The late Mr Wood was born at Leith, Scotland, and came to New Zealand about forty years ago, being assistant to the Rev. Lindsay Mack ay, at First Church, Dunedin. After completing his studies, he was stationed at Wyndham, Southland, where he remained for many years. Later he received calls to Waikari (North Canterbury) and Masterton, and also had charge of the home mission station .at Island Bay. Since his retirement he had been living at Karori, where he devoted himself to writing on theological subjects. He always associated himself strongly with the Bible-m-Schools movement. REV. FATHER GOGGAN. WELLINGTON, August 11. A r ter a short illness a well-known figure in the Roman .Catholic Church, the Rev. Father J. Goggan, died at Lewisham Hospital, Wellington, todnv.

The late Father Goggan, who was in his eighty-first year, carried on active work up to within a few weeks ago. He was noted for his tireless energy and never-failing strength of purpose. He was horn in Ireland on October 23. 1850. and became a member of the Marist Order in Ireland in 1879. He then went to the I’nited States, and, following some years ministry there, he came to New Zealand. During a min:strv extending over mnav years in the Dominion, he was attached to the f> 1lowing parishes :—Temuka, Timaru. Hastings. Hih Street and Boulcott Street, Wellington, and .at Napier for two periods. For the past- five years he was in charge of St. Patrick’s Church, Napier, and it- is to his efforts that the church owes its present decorations. Apart from the actual duties of the ministry, he took a keen interest in work of a beautifying character, and never deprecated any forms of manual labour.
