MINING
It is evident from the large number of prospectors who are now seeking for gold at the present time on the West Const, and more especially at Blackwater and Hukawai, where a good number o, leases have been taken up, that there is more than a likelihood of a revival of the industry in the not distant future. It is hoped, within the course of the next few weeks to have the Mount David sluicing claim in full working operation, and if this mine should give .the .returns that are anticipated, or even anything like what its prospects have shown, it should be a. big lift to the industry. It is understood that the majority of the workmen engaged on the construction o the water race will be paid off this week, the work being almost completed. i
It is understood that Messrs G. McInroe, H. Ronchi and party have gone into partnership with Mr Peter Mitchell on a sluicing area at Hukawai. Pipes have been purchased and will be carted on to the area this week. It is hoped by the party to have a wash up early in September.
