HUGE DEFICIT. United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright, j PARIS, August 12. The French railways show a deficit for 1930, of fourteen and a half millions sterling. Judging by the past half year’s returns is will be twenty-two and a half millions in 1931. •In order to place the lines on an economic basis it is' proposed to raise the fares bv twenty-five cents, to close many stations, and to abolish certain local lines, substituting for them motor omnibuses or light motor vehicles that will use the railway lines.
