The cutting 7 off of the Tight to the Wallsend Mine caused a stoppage of the fans in the mine and the workmen returned home in the afternoon. - The -‘damage"' to ' the line was soon repaired and the night shift went on at the' mine last evening.

The death of a i well-known; Greymouth resident, Mr Thomas-S. Brebner, occurred on Tuesday evening at . the Grey Hospital after a comparatively brief illness. The deceased, who had only lately retired’ from active work, on superannuation, had last week undergone an operation at the Hospital: The late Mr Brebner, who was a native of Port Chalmers, was until his recent retirement, an employee .of the State Mines’ Department, and was for over twenty years Shipping Clerk for that Department, at Greymouth. He previously had been on the staff of the Union S.S. ; Goy. The deceased gentleman was a prominent member of the Greymouth Bowling Club, .of which he ( had been a Past. President, and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. He is survived, by his widow, two sons. Gordon, of Papakura, and Colin, and one daughter, Mrs W. Coles, of Ahaura, .who will have the sympathy of. many friends in their (bereavement. McKay’s now have a great display of remnants, flannel, tweed, rayons, prints, silks and curtains in all lengths.
