J LONDON,' Aiugnlst 11. , •The : Earl and Countess of Strathmore have had their golden wedding celebrations overshadowed by their fear of increasing taxation. This may result in the closing, of the ancient Glamis Castle. Lord Strathmore says: “The times are becoming so had that I may he unable to remain in residneee. taxation absorbs £BO out of every £IOO that- I receive. On top of that, there comes the new land tax. I feel afraid that I may have to retire.” Princess Elizabeth, rose early to greet her grandparents. There were scenes of old time pageantry at., the Castle to-niglit, when four hundred tenants and employees, some' of whom - have served Lord Strathmore for their lifetime, attended the hall, many of them being kilted. The Duke and, Duhcess of York assisted. Arrangements have /been made for two thousand I°. attend a garden .party to-morrow, when Sii Harry Lauder ..will, sing.
