GENERAL ELECTION
USUAL TIME.

CHRISTCHURCH, August 10
Members of Paliament wlio arrived from Wellington on Saturday were of the opinion that 'the election will take* place about the usual'time, and probably just before Carnival week. Beyond a jocular remark that he thought it would be a good idea to hold the general election when the weather became warmer, the Prime Minister (Mr Forbes) did not give any hint of the date likely vtp be fixed when approached on the tjuesjtion. “I’m alfraid I really don’it kno.\ much about it,” he remarked, ‘‘but it will depend a good deal on liow long the session lasts.” Agreement was expressed by Mr Forbes with a suggestion that it was better to hold the election when the weather was warm than in wintry weather, but he would not say definitely that the date wou'd be prior t> Carnival Week in November.
A BE FORM CANDIDATE. AUCKLAND, August 10. General Sir George Richardson (exMilitary Governor of Samoa) has accepted nomination as a Reform Party candidate for the Auckland East seat.
