ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES
MOTOR-CYCLIST INJURED. BURSTING OF BACK TYRE. CARTERTON, August 8. A young man, IV. R. Nankerville, aged twenty-eight, whose home is in Petone, and who is employed at Mr D. Riddilord’s station at Lagoon Hills, Martinhorough, met with a motor-cycle accident on Thursday afternoon. He received a message from his. wife in Petone that thdir small daughter was very ill, and -he mounted his motorcycle to proceed home. On reaching Kaiawaiwai the hack tyre burst, and the motor-cycle left the road and dashed into a fence.
Nankerville-was struck on the head, a deep gash resulting, and he also sustained a fracture of one of his arms. A passing motor-lorry picked him up and conveyed him to the Kelvin Hospital at Featherson. The patient regained consciousness late -yesterday afternoon, and is making satisfactory progress.
LIFT ACCIDENT. YOUNG MAN INJURED. CHRISTCHURCH, August 10. Nelson Hnxell aged twenty-one, residing at 13 Jerrold Street, received injuries to the head on Saturday morning, at* the used car department of Dot minion Motors, through the cable of a works lift breaking. Hnxell lead driven a motor-car on to the platform of the lift, not designed to carry passengers, preparatory to proceeding to the first floor, when the overhead gear gave way, and the lift platform fell down the lift well, a distance of about twenty feet. He was aide to extricate himself without difficulty, hut his admission to hospital was considered necessary. His condition is satisfactory.
