FORGED NOTE CASE

In the re-trial of the forged notes cas, Maurice Goodman, Percy Short, and Percy McKenzie Short, were found guilty and were remanded for sentence. Harry Torpy, aged 46, was found not guilty. NELSON TAN'I-DIUVIvR'S FRAUD. NELSON, August 10. Richard Rawson taxi-driver® who staged a sham assault and robbery in an endeavour to conceal the theft of his employer’s money, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment .for theft. The Magistrate said that it would be vicious, from the point of view of public policy, to grant probation in such a case of chicanery.

William Calnan and George Guest were before the Central Summons Court to-day on charges, under the Customs Act, arising out of the importation of the racehorse Simba. Calnan is charged with wrongfully stating the value of’ the horse, and having wrongfully described Simba. Guest is charged with having understated Simba’s value at £l5O. sr l he case was adjourned for a fortnight.

Plaintiff is Mary Agnes Strack, and, the defendant is Richard Wallace, of Maungatapere, farmer. Allegations of negligent, unskilful and reckless driving are made.
