WAR DEBTS THE BUGBEAR

I (LONDON, August 10

The “Daily Mail” says ; It is unlikely that the Government will follow the Economy Committee’s recent report. Mr MacDonald, in an interview at iLossiemouth, emphasised that the committee’s report was not the Government’s responsibility alone. He said : “The Conservatives and the Liberals insisted on setting up this Committee, and we had to agree to it. Two of the Government nominees disagreed ivith some of the recommendations. The fact is that the Conservatives and the Liberals want us to shoulder the responsibility. The Prime Minister added that he was most unhappy at the harm which the report had done to Britain abroad. The Daily Mail further says; “Mr MacDonald is convinced that the cure of the world's financial troubles lies in the scaling down, or in the cancellation of the war debts. He is at present exploring this question with the United ' States Secretary of State, Mr etimstin (who is on a visit to Scotland).
