PARLIAMENTS CONTROL OF EXPENDITURE.
WELLINGTON, August 7
Several items t»f interest are contained in tljo annual report of the Auditor ftnd;,.CQptroller-General presented to Parliament to-day. Under the section dealing with irregularities ill connection with public moneys and Stores there appears the statement : “Public Works Department irregularities by departmental officers—theft of-'-stores, falsification of documents apd records, forgery and overpayhienfp; the police decided not to prosecute' several officers dismissed from the service.’’ In view of the pressing need for ecopomy the Controller suggests the introduction of legislation for the consolidation of loan authorities which hav© been passed, so that there would be onlyippe consolidated authority for eftch account, Regarding future legislation fpr raising additional loans, he suggests that instead of passing a new Act wIfPU the original authority is exhausted an - amendment extending the amount authorised is all that is necessary. is that in one case Over forty Loans Acts from time to tiipe have been passed for the one account.
