Westland Acclimatisation and Tourist Society
THURSDAY; AUGUST 6th. The monthly meeting of the council of the above Society was held at the County Chambers at 7.30 p.rir. Present: Dr E. Teichelmann, President, Messrs R. Stuart, A. Armstrong, YV.. Bratldon and E. J. Lloyd. The President made reference 'to the indisposition of the (Secretary, Mr I). J. Evans, and voiced the hopes of the members that" he would soon regain lib usual health.
The minutes of the. previous meeting were confirmed and outward correspondence approved.
INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. ' From Department of Industries and Tourists, intimating provision will be made for' a renewal of the Gallery Gorge Bridge.—Received. From Department of Agriculture, removing the protection on .stoats,, weasels; and ferrets under the “Rabbit Nuisance Act, 1928.’’—Received. From Department of Internal Affairs with reference to the liberation of Canadian geese at the Okarito Lagoon and advising authority must be obtained before further importations.—Received and. attended to.
From Same, forwarding list of Broker’s Licenses issued. under the opossum regulations 1930, for the season.—Re- . ’ ’ ceived, ,

"' From New •' Zealand Acclimatisation Association, Wellington, .advising a conference would be held next year to (formulate business to bring before Parliament, and in the meantime the Executive would bring under the notice of the Departments any requirements of the various Societies.—Received.
From North Canterbury Society, notice of forwarding 150,000 brown trout ova for the season.—Received.
From Government Hatchery, Tokannu, supplying 247,000 ova for stocking pur-
poses.—Received. .', . •>', ; . Mr Armstrong reported the fish in the hatchery: totalled 600,000 in a eery healthv condition,
Fi’owrß, Cowan, forwarding nine shags’ beaks secured ut Oknru.—Received and already dealt with. From State Forest Service with reference to mining privileges in the Okarito district.—. Received and attended to. From Grey District Society, enquiring probable date of brown trout fry being ready for liberation.—Received. It was reported that persons were using dynamite in the A rah it ra river for killing trout and it was resolved to write to the Police Department urging stringent action in th’s reprehensible practice, also that damage may happen to girders of the railway br’dg". Accounts were, passed for payment amounting to £8 4s 7d. It was decided to write to the New iZealand Association asking that the Government he strongly urged to restore the royalty on opossum skins taken in the various districts. A vote of thanks to the Chair terminated the meeting.
