RENTS REFUNDED
ON UNOCCUPIED HOUSES. ( By Telegraph —Per Press Association) WELLINGTON; August 4. A refund of £l4 5s 4d,: being half the rates paid in respect to unoccupied houses at Eastbourne, was ordered by Mr E. Page, S.AL, at the Magistrate's Court to-day, when he delivered judgment in favour of J. R. E. Bennett, who claimed to recover that amount from the Eastbourne Borough Council under Section 69 of the Rating Act 1925. Air Page said it was provided that where any dwelling bouse or other building, remained actually vacant and unoccupied for not less than six months in any rating year, and tlie ' owner gave notice to tbe local authority, bo would be liable to pay only ■one-half of tlie amount of the year’s rates.
