STANDARD INSURANCE COY.

DUNEDIN, August 4. The annual report of the Directors of tlie Standard Insurance Coy, Ltd., states that the income from all sources’ ‘for the year -amounts tlqi £226,949 8s Id, to which lias to be added a balance brought forward from last year of £24,144 9s 4d. The surplus on the year’s operations, after making full provision for all ascertained losses to June 30; payment of an interim dividend, a donation to guarantee and Provident Fund, and the depreciation of securities, amounts to £35,558 19s sd. Out, of this surplus the Directors recommend the payment of a dividend at the rate of Is 3d per share, and the carrying forward to next year of £24,058 19s sd. GIFT COUPONS BILL. : : WELLINGTON, August 4. Delay lias occurred in the drafting of the Gift Coupons Bill, and it is not now anticipated that the measure will make its appearance in the House until the end of the present week, or the beginning of next. Should a no-con-fidence amendment of the Budget intervene, the appearance of the Bill is likely to lie even longer delayed.
Jt is understood to be the desire of the Government that the Bill should go before a Select Committee.

WELLINGTON, August 4. Hie annual conference of the Public Service Association is taking place to-day. Sir T. Sidey, Attorney-General, attended 011 behalf of the Government. Tll the course of bis remarks, he referred to the cut which tbe economic position had rendered necessary, and said the Government appreciated tbe loyalty of the service, and the uncomplaining manner in which the reduction was accepted by the service generally. He felt the Association could render a distinct public service in endeavouring to maintain tbe spirit of friendliness under existing circumstances.
The report and balance shoot were adopted, and the conference went into committee on the remits.
