A party, including a wireless operator, left to investigate the reported murder by blacks ol tbe exploration party in Rawliiison Ranges. Ihe police will be joined by a camel driver, and will proceed overland lor 43U miles on camels. They will be away for nearly six months.
AUSTRALIAN TRADE. SYDNEY, August 3. Returns of tbe oversea trade ol Australia for tbe year to June 30th show a strong movement towards a more favourable balance between exports and imports. Both tell away but a much heavier decline was shown in tbe- latter.
Exports totalled 6102,038,398 in Australian currency. a decrease of C 23.088.750. Imports, expressed in English currency, amounted to CGO.558,005, a decrease of C 70.523.225.
VITAL STATISTICS. SYDNEY. August 3. The population of the Commonwealth bn May 31 last was 0,488.707. Of this total 3.308.501 were males and 3,1 SO. 140 females. The total increase during the year was 50.501. There was an excess of births over deaths of 72,406. and excess of departures over arrivals of 12.005.
