New Zealand cricketers establish-* ed a good position against Glamorgan. The innings closed for 363 and at stumps Glamorgan had three wickets in hand and required 61 to avert an innings defeat. Mills fine innings closed shortly before lunch, when lie snicked a ball going away and was caught bv the wicketkeeper. It was a chanceless display lasting 255 minutes. Grace ul offshots were features of the innings. He hit fifteen fours. Cromb played on in the last over before lunch. Vivian and Matheson attacked the bowling after lunch. The former played a sound, undefeated innings for one hundred minutes and hit six fours and one six off clay clean out of the ground. Glamorgan again started badly, Howard attempted to hit U good length ball from Cromb and Bates walked Jil front of a bait from Matheson, 2 for 25.
Dyson and Davies butted cautiously to steady bowling of Talbot and Crorab. The former was dismissed immediately after tea. Talbot continued to bowl well and dismissed Davies and Turnbull with late in swingers. Duckfield was badly beaten by Cromb in attempting a leg shot. Jenkins and Davies defied several bowling changes till the former was smartly stumped in the final over. Merritt bowled well and deserved more success. The attendance was ten thousand. Leading Aircraftsman Monks playing for the Air Force against the Army equalled Albert Trott’s feat in the benefit match at Lords in 1907, by first accomplishing the hat trick and then taking the last four wickets with successive deliveries, clean bowling six out of seven.
