TRAINS DIVERTED
SUP THREATENS AT TUNNEL. AUCKLAND, July 30. About 700 tons oj earth, \.h:ch threatened to fall and block the City end of the Purewa railway tunnel today, was responsible for all railway traffic on the Westfield deviation being suspended and trains being diverted to the Newmarket route. It is expec ted that the deviati n will rma n closed until Saturday morning. The last train to use the deviation was the Limited express from Wellington. A gang of about fifty railwayman was immediately dispatched in a maintenance train to the face of the tunnel. With thick rones round their waists many of the men were lowered ■ van the crumbling earth where, with nicks and crowbars, they set to work.
