RUSSIAN BUTTER

A BIG CARGO. I United Press Association.—by Electra Telegraph.—Copyright, i LONDON, •August 1. The Soviet steamer “Smolny” discharged twelve thousand barrels and four thousand boxes of Russian butter at London yesterday. The boxes, according to an Empire butter authority, are an exact copy of the boxes used by New Zealand. Every dimension is the same. Even the grading mark is stencilled outside. It is the same when the outer covering is removed. There is nothing to enable the purchaser to distinguish between it and the New Zealand article, unless the grocer himself used an identifying ticket. “Under the present state of the law we have absolutely no remedy against this imitation of our boxes," said a New Zealand butter expert, who added that the incident indicated the urgent need of protective measures.
