THEFT CHARGE
COME PECULIAR CIRCUMSTANCES (By Telegraph—Per press Association) NELSON, August 3. Richard Robert Lawson, a taxi-driv-er. who early last .Monday morning was found lying on the road by his car in Bridge Street ,'and was removed to the hospital, was this morning charged before Justices with having failed to account for a sum of money totalling £2 2s to William Gould. When application was made if or hail the police said there was one change only at present hut there was the possibility of another, as enquiries were still being made. Detective Sinclair said he considered it his duty to place the facts before the Biidi, to take into consideration, if bail were considered. He explained that Raw son was a taxi-driver, who had been allegedly assaulted and robbed, but when shown what was a frame-up on the public, then the amount of bai 1 should he substantial. He asked if bail were allowed that Rawson report to the police daily. Air J. R. Kerr, for accused, objected to the detective’s remarks about accused, who was remanded until Friday. Bail was fixed in one surety of £2O. accused to report to the police dailv.
