Lady Bledisloo occupied a seat in Mr Speaker’s ladies gallery. The Prime Minister was followed with-keen attention by members. The Prime Minister was applauded at the conclusion of the reading of the Budget, which occupied an hour and tli ree-q ua rters. The Customs resolutions were then submitted to the House. When Mr Follies had concluded his explanation of the proposed alteration several members of both Opposition parties, a-s well as Independent members, immediately rose to address the chair. The Leader of the Labour party said he was sure astonishment would lie felt all over New Zealand when the proposals became public. Necessary items were being taxed in spite of the Prime Minister’s talk of a prospective lad in the cost of living. 'Horn. J. G. Coates questioned whether the full benefits would be obtained from the projxisod alterations. Several members strongly criticised the suggested primage duty of three nor cent.’ Tlie resolutions were ovent.ua.Tv adopted and the House rose at 12.40 .a. m.
