Gangsters, seeking to kill a rival on the street, indiscriminately fired a machine-gun into a crowd of playing children, • wounding five o’f them and killing one. Then the gangsters escaped in an automobile. The citizens are indignant at the crime, and demand that the .Police Commissioner shall find the perpetrators or resign. The newspapers offer fiv© thousand dollars reward for tie capture and conviction of the gunmen.
