OPENING OF FOX GLACIER HALL

The scene within the new Fox Glacier Hall recently erected by Messrs Sullivan •Bros, at Weheka when the opening ceremony look place last Saturday night, was one of festivity and gaiety. Ihc beautiful frocks worn by the ladies and the Hall decorations which were carried out in festoons of streamers, Chinese lanterns, balloons, and evergreens added greatly to the beauty of the scene. The first half of the concert programme was contributed by the school children with vocal items by Mrs and Mrs A. Perry, Misses Marie Jones and Roey Ward accompanied by Miss Marie Giese, and a classic toe dance by Miss Francis Campbell ; a musical monologue by Miss Alexis Campbell and an impersonation by Mr T. O’Shea, were greatly enjoyed by the large audience. 'lhe whole of the second half of the concert programme was presented by the Wt-heka minstrels, 'their vocal and instrumental items and local h.ts being heartily applauded. Songs were rendered by Messrs •P. and J. Duncan, T. Merrick, M. Ixoeti, E. Bagley, D. McLaren and E. Wilson. Over eighty couples took part in the very enjoyable dance which followed, the music being ably supplied by Wilson’s Orchestra with extras by Misses M. Giese, E. Hunt and Mr Cowan. The large crowd present proclaimed the event as one of the most enjoyable which has been held in South Westland and declared the, fine Hall well and truly opened.
