A message from the State of Vera Cruz states:—Religious difficulties of a sensational character have followed an attempted assassination of the Governor of Tejeda, by a youth, who refused to explain the reason of his attack, which reason, however, is presumed to be displeasure at the Vera Cruz Government’s recent reduction of the number of Priest" "’no are permitted to perform then officers. Only a few Priests are being now allowed ■to do so in the entire state of Vera Cruz. To-day, ill a reprisal for the youths attack on the Governor, the AntiClerical Party murdered one priest, and wounded allot her priest. They also burned four important churches, all of which had been closed, two of thb foui churches being totally destroyed. Immediately after that, the Vera Cruz Bishop, Monsignor ißafeal Gmza Yvaleileia, despatched the following message to the Governor of Tejada:--"Before the republic of the world, I offer to present myself personally to vou that you may wound me and kill me, if, in exchange, you promise all the Vera Cruz Catholics full liberty, and not to spill the blood ot my priests.”
