CHIEF JUST.CE URGES IMPRISONMENT. ( Jiy Telegraph—Per Press A ssociation) WELLINGTON, July 27. The Chief Justice, addressing the Grand Jury to-day, regarding an alleged conspiracy to defraud bookmakers said that if was disturbing to find that, though an Act was passed eleven years ago making book making a. crime, it seemed more rile than ever. It was not correct to sav bookmaking cannot he stopped, but it could not be done by imposing fines upon their agents. The only way was for the Magistrate to impose terms of imprisonment without the option of lines.
