SETTLER'S 'REMOVE STOCK. XAIMER, July 24. Heavy rain which fell to-day and last night, both locally and in the back country, has had the etlect oi causing the rivers in' the district to rise, and to-night the Tutaekuri 'River is in a dangerous position, the bank at Fairey’s Bend, on the other side of the river in the vicinity oi Meeanee, having broken for a distance of two or three chains, water flooding over into the lower Papakura and working its way over the intervening ground between there and Awatoto. With the advent of rain, settlen took the opportunity early to-day to remove their stock to higher country, and so 'far there have not been reported any instances ot sheep or cattle having been lost, although in Papakura there are believed to be a tew sheep marooned. There is a great deal of water auout •Meeanee and Clive, and, unless the rain ceases very soon, indications were last night that the low level bridge on the Napier side of the Waitangi bridge would be impassable to-morrow morning. Rain has been falling incessantly almost for twenty-four hours, and indications to-night did not show any sign of the weather breaking.
