RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) MONDAY, JULY 27th. 2YA's programme this evening will feature another “Musical Portrait," this time of the composer Brahms. It has been specially chosen in order to show that Brahms can be its melodious, as •easily understood and as much enjoyed as the less severe composers: Mrs Wilfred Andrews (contralto) will sing some of his sweetest songs. A selection of Brahms’ waltzes, which he wrote to disprove an accusation that he could not write as tunefully as Schubert, will be played as duets by Miss Nora .Gray and Mr Gordon Short. Mr Short will also play some of Brahms’ more characteristic works. Mrs Amy Woodward and Mrs Wilfred Andrews will sing two duets and solos. Songs by Mr Arthur Clark ftenor) will include Rimsky-Kor-sakoff’s "Hindu Song.” The Christchurch Municipal Band (Conductor Mr J. Noble) will give a well arranged programme' from 3YA. The assisting artists include Miss Julie Werrj soprano, (late oi Wanganui), Mrs <R. h. Toller (contralto), Mr J. Gallagher \(tenor), Mr 'Sydney Armstrong (baritone) and Mr H. Instone (humorist). Mr J. Crossley Clitheroe, Lecturer oil Music at the Dunedin Training College, will be the lecturer during the International Programme at 4YA this evening. His subject will be "The International Kinship of Music.’’ Silent day at IYA. TUESDAY, JULY 28th. The speaker on the International Programme at IYA this evening will be tin ißev. A. B. Chappell, M.A. Subject; “Peoples of the Pacific." The vocal portion of 27 A's concert will be in the hand- of the popular Melodie Four, in solo and concerted numbers. The quartettes will include ‘Juanita’’ and ‘‘Genevieve,’ two old ta\onrites. Messrs Bert hold and Bent, guitar duo, will be heard in popular airs. The incidental music will be supplied by the Salon Orchestra. Liza Lehmann’s songs will figure prominently on 4YA‘s programme on Toes.lav evening, practically all the vocal numbers on the musical o‘ogramiiie being token from the works of this very popular composer. The singers will be llifi Harmonists. Miss Mae Matheson, Miss MS. Green and Mr C. S. Hawes will be the soloists. Irish and Hebrew humour will be provided by Mr W. B. Lambert. The instrumental portion of t.Vevening's programme will be provide'! oy Mrs C. Drake, pianiste, and by the Kaikorai Band, unrlrr Mr \Y. P. Coughlin. Silent day at 3YA.
