DROVE INTO HARBOR

A NARROW ESCAPE. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 27. A remarkable escape from' drowning, occurred in the harbour yesterday a.ternoon. James Arthur Briggs, 45, of Thames, when driving a baby car, attempted to drive on the vehicular ferry, being under the impression that one of the crew had beckoned him on. The ferry was just moving off and the car plunged into the hai bour. Briggs fortunately took a deep breath and began to struggle out of the side window. Ono leg was caught between the brake and gear, lever, but he wrenched it out. On reaching the surface he swam to the wharf and was made comfortable in the engineroom of the .erry.
