HOTEL RATES REDUCED
BIG ORGANISATION’S LEAD.
WELLINGTON, July 22. Hotel tariffs are being reduced to meet tl:e widespread demand for cheap-*, er living costs. A lead has been given by a large controlling organisation which has reduced the rates at two leading Auckland hotels. In one case .the new minimum inclusive'rate is £1 per day, a'reduction of ss, and in the other case the reduction is to los from a former tariff of £1 per day. The 6ame organisation has also introduced a reduction in the rates for its most popular secondary hotel in Auckland. The tariff for a leading hotel at Rotorua has been reduced from a minimum of £1 los per day to 18s bd per day. A representative of the organisation controlling this chain of licensed houses said to-day that the reductions were in accordance with the spirit of the times. The larger hotels wore passing on to patrons considerably more than the saving effected by a 10 per cent, reduction in staff wages.
