Albert McAskie, aged 69, living in a whare on a gumfield at Poroti, became subject to a' sudden seizure and fell into the fire. His dog, a hidfbreed retriever, dragged him from the flames saving him ■fromi inevitable death. Though terribly burned, McAskie was able to summon help. He was conveyed to Whangarei .hospital.. . ••• ■ •••.. -
Among other extensive injuries McAskie’s right hand was charred to the bone and amputation is probable.
