It is expected the Prime " Minister will m tue budget announce that no civil seviee salary will be increased lor the present year. Jt is esVniiau.. that by withholding the expected increments the Government Will effect a saving c-f approximately £‘200,001) \Vith tnis additional contribution and to pay under tiie new Unemployment bill together with the amount saved to the public funds by the application of ■ the 10 per cent. reduction in wages, the public servants will have assisted the economy campaign since its inception to the extent of almost £1,750,000. The loss to the civil servants as a result of the cut was £1,39.1,000, while tiie tax of 3d in the £ on wages or salaries is estimated to produce over the whole service the sum of £157,000. About one-third of the members o f the service are due ftlr annual increments ranging from £lO to £2O, so that by fixing the average at £ls, the saving in this direction should be in the vicinity of £290,000.
