FORT,WORTH FORCED DOWN

INABILITY TO REFUEL

NOME, (Alaska), July 9

Fortwofth passed here at 2.10 a.m. to day, completing twenty-one hundred miles. • Refuelling contacts were made between Fairbanks and Solomon. As the ’plane was slowed'down by poor visibility; 1 and low ceiling the ’plane beaded into a cloudbank over Behring Sea. Though clouds are hanging low, the whather is improving.

A message from .Solomon (Alaska) states Fortworth’s 'flight ended there at 3.50 aim. to-day when unfavourable weather and the inability to make the contact for the long dash, forced the fliers down. Bumpy conditions made it impossible for tlie Ships to- establish contact, long enough. The fliers are convinced the weather prospects over the hazardous Behring Sea are bad.
