Following the report that United States films constitute a monopoly in Canada, the British Columbia Government announces the adoption of the quota system with the- aim of popular ising British films. The compulsory percentage of the latter to he shown has not been decided.

A report issued by the Empire Marketing Board records increased buying of Empire products in Britain, which, it says, is to be attributed in part greater scientific attention being given by producers to grading and orderly marketing. Some 200 local authorities had responded to the Board’s sugge;t : on to increase Empire purchases. There was a “Sales Drive” in suport of -Home butter and Empire butter in Lancashire, and it was reported to be ramarkably successful, having resulted in 2000 more shops in that area selling Empire butter.

A surprise has been created, in the wool textile industry at Bradford by the announcement that a number of the employers have decided that they are no longer able to maintain the present rates of wages, and that they accordingly are making reductions of 11.7 per cent, in the wages of the time workers. Instead of a general notice, each operative will receive notice at th© week-end.
