WELLINGTON, July 9

Before the 'Ulimaroa sailed for Sydney at 12.20 p.m., to-day the Customs officials noticed a very heavy-looking bag .which a passenger was carrying up the gangway. An inspection proved that the bag contained some hundreds of pounds of silver coins. As the regulatons state that if more than £5 worth of silver coins in th f case of Australia, and more than . £1( worth in the case of any other coun try, is attempted to be imported into, or exported from New Zealand, th - cßiifS s fn;?y"W3 confiscated by the 'Ofif' toms.

The man with the bag was detained and the silver was taken from him. Ulimaroa arrived at Wellington oi Tuesday from Australia, some China men were caught attempting to im port a considerable quantity of silve: coins. The Customs officials in then case also discovered the attemptei breach of the regulations.
