NEW DEBATING! SOCIETY FORMED
A meeting of members of the Westland Lodge No. 89 was held in the Lodge Rooms on Monday night the 6th. inst for the purpose of forming a debating club. Mr N. Warren was elected to the Chair.
The first business set down for was the naming of the Club and after a lengthy discussion the name decided upon was “The Westland Literary and Debating Club.” The electidn of officers resulted as follows:
President:— Mr R- Cressqy. Secretary:—-Mr T. Lock. Treasurer: —Mr R- Bell. Executive Committee to consist of all members. After a lengthy discussion it was decided to admit any person of respectable character as a member of the Club. The meeting night decided upon was Wednesday night of each week at 8 p.m. The subject chosen for the 1 next week s debate was “That the action of the Government in dealing with the Unemployment Problem is in the best interests of N.Z.” _ . There being no further business the meeting closed with a hearty vote ot thanks to the Chair.
