LAUNCH LOST

THREE MEN RESCUED. (By Teieyraph~Ptr Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 8. Three men were rescued from drowning in Hauraki Gulf last night by the steam trawler. Thomas Cunnll, which reached the men’s sinking launch just in time. The rescued men were J. Holt jnr. D. Miller and W. Storl'v The launch was returning to Auckland from Port Fitzroy when the engine broke down at 2.30 p.m. and began to . ship water. The men could do nothing but keep bailing the water, but about midnight were becoming exhausted. To make their plight worse, the dinghy towed astern broke away.

About two this morning they saw a masthead light and so lit flares. Half an hour later the Thomas, Cumell took the men off and attempted to tow the launch which broke away and disappeared.
