The “News Chronicle” reveals that the battleship Emperor of India, worth two millions, scrapped owing to the Naval Treaty, formed a secret target for testing a new toii weight shell travelling two thousand feet per second after leaving a gun aboard the Iron Duke and another battleship. It was so effective that the Emperor was almost, battered to pieces and sank, which was never intended. Divers are busy patching up, preparatory to salvage. Although the damage is so severe that it is considered impossible to use the target ship again, she is being sold to the ship breakers. Hie noise of the fusilade was terrific and residents at Banger at which the experiment was made are protesting to the Admiralty.
