PARLIAMENT
THE OPENING CEREMONY. (By Teleyruph — l‘er Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 25. The fifth session of twenty-third Parliament was opened by the GovernorGeneral this afternoon with the trad-
itional ceremony. On arrival at Parliament Buildings, their Excellencies were received at tm* foot of the steps by the General Officer commanding New Zealand forces, Maj-or-General Sinciair-Burgess, and the Senior Naval Officer, Captain Fraser. The opening baiv of the National Anthem were played hv the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Band. Their Excellencies then inspected the Guard of Honour provided by the Royal Naval! ## Volunteer Reserve. •
In the meantime Her Excellency was-
escorted to her place in the Legislative Council Chamber.
A large attendance of the publio had assembled in the grounds of Parliament Buildings in the bright sunshine and there were crowded galleries in the Legislative Council Chamber. On entering the chamber of the Legislative Council anl taking his seat on the throne, his Excellency commanded the Black Rod to summon members of the House of Representatives- v-ho took their seats at the rear of the Chamber, .
His Excellency then rend the speech from the throne. After their Excellencies, and party
and members, of the House of Representatives had left, the Chamber, Hon. Mitchelson gave notice to move the-Address-in-Reply motion on Wednesday next and the Council adjourned at 3.20 p.m. until Tuesday.
IN THE HOUSE.. In the House of Representatives, the Speaker announced the result of the Hauraki hve-election, and the new member, Air W. W. Massey, wassworn in. Notice was given of the intention to* introduce the following Bills: — Currency Bill (Mr Mason). Electoral Amendment (Mr Clinkard). Divorce and Matrimonial Causes Amendment (Air Mason). Gaming Amendment (Air Armstrong) Rotorua Vesting and Empowering (Air Clinkard). Local Election and Polls Amendment (Air Alason). Deaths by Accident Compensation Amendment (Air Alason). Crimes Amendment (Mr Alason). Shipping and Seaman Amendment (Air Alason). Air Lye gave notice of intention to move an Address-in-Reply motion. The Prime Minister intimated that the Imprest Bill and Local Authorities Empowering (Relief Unemployment) Extension Bill be dealt with to-morrow. The HotiSe rose at 3.35 p.m.- till 2.30 next ciaJL
