Although tb- hum is wanted rain they would have preferred it without such severe' cold. On the higher country at tin 1 foot of the mountains there were sleet showers, and, in places, snow.
The rain which has fallen will not he sufficient to the record of th half year, which is nearly complet'd, as the driest ever experienced in Canterbury.
