CANTERBURY EDUCATION BOARD

The Canterbury Board of F.dueation met at Christchurch on Friday, when there were present:—Messrs R. Wild (chairman), W. P. Spencer, J. G. Cmv. W. Johnson, S. Smith, G. W. Armitage, J. W. Preen and J. J. Hurley. It was resolved to recommend to the Department the establishment of a. household school in the Knrangarua district. Letters were received from the Greyinoiitli, Uumuiga and Timaru South Committees asking [or increased staffing. It was resolved to express regret that the Board was unable to accede to the requests. Appointments confirmed included:— Ngahere, Miss J. Knell, assistant mistress. Teremaknu, Miss E. Pickering, sole teacher. Wallis Siding, Air F. A. Barlthrop, sole teacher. The Department stated that it could not agree to payment of more than 13/- a day for bus service from Blue Spur to Hokitika. A letter was received from Air J. P. Cotilson, contractor, stating that the above rate was insufficient. It was resolved that the Board find an extra 1/- a day. Attendance Officers’ Reports were received from Mr J. Angus (Canterbury) and Air AY. D. Afnclcay (West Coast) on activities during the past month, FOREMAN’S REPORT. The Foreman’s Report for the month was received and adopted:— Hokitika,-—Authority was given for the construction of a light bell tower of nnglo iron on concrete, the present tower to be demolished. Instructions to be issued to the Foreman to regard the work as one of urgency. Paroa.—Foundations of front verandah at residence to be renewed ; several new sheets of iron to be provided for roof; washhouse to be repaired, and spouting and downpipes attended to.
