On all the great occasions in life, in times of joy, congratulations, remembrance, sympathy rr bereavement, nothing symbolises our sentiments, gives them greater expression, more gracefully and acceptably, than by means of some beautiful and appropriate, gift or floral tribute, which you can procure, at most reasonable cash prices, from the “Heartsease”, Floral Studio, (opposite Library). The new premises of the Bank of New Zealand in ‘Revell Street which were opened for business last week are of a very ornate nature, and make an attractive improvement to the locality. Considerable details have yet to be completed in connection with the furnishings, but the actual work of building has been completed. The building is a wooden one with the interior lath and plastered. The banking chamber is lofty and well lighted, and should prove excellently adaptable for the carrying on of the Bank’s business operations. The chamber 'is divided off in the usual manner with handsome wooden partitions, a grille being in front of the teller where the general public attend to transact ordinary business. One or two of the counters are of cedar, and these were retrieved from the old bank furnishings. Generally throughout the timber is of heart of red pine and there are some line specimens of this timber in th building, which all came from the mills of the .Hokitika Kanieri Sawmills Ltd. The portion divided off for the use of tire staff provides ample and convenient space for them, while a central heating installation with radiators at handy intervals provides a comfortable heat throughout the building. At the rear of the main chamber is the strong room, which was also in use in the former structure, with necessary antrooms for the use of the office staff. In the upstairs portion of the' building, comfortable living quarters are arranged for the house staff, and are on most convenient and comfortable lines, while the whole building is electrically lighted. The outside of the building is of neat design and has quite an imposing appearance. The building which is on a concrete foundation, has been painted and sanded in a dark cream color. The contract for the building was in the hands of ‘Messrs Calvert and Co. ot Wellington who have completed .the work in a workmanlike manner.
