HORSE’S ESCAPADE, (By Telegraph—Per Press Association ) STRATFORD, June 15. An unusual • accident occurred at six o’clock last evening at Ngaere, when a horse became maddened by a garden rake caught in its tail, and dashed along the main road. A car proceeding to Stratford, driven by F. Shaw, got off the road in time, escaping a collision by inches. Austin Yarndley, manager of Newton King, who was driving a car billowing, saw that a collision was inevitable and stopped. The horse dashed into the radiator, catapulted on to the top of the su,nshield, and was thrown right over the car, being killed instantly.

Another car, from the opposite direction at this moment just missed bitting the dead horse. Yarndley’s car was damaged, but he, Mrs Yarndley, and their son escaped injury. ST. KILDA COUNCIL’S DECISION. DUNEDIN, June IG. St. Kilda Borough Council decided to postpone the question of the ten per cent, cut on employees wages for six months. During the discussion, it was stated that several city firms had not made the wage reduction.

June 10.After a long debate on wages, the City Council decided last night by 0 votes to 8 to make a reduction in the salaries of its officers, ranging from lo ’-er cent, in the case of those receiving €IOOO and over, to 8 per cent, in trie case of those in receipt of £350 <n over. , On this occasion two Independents voted with the Citizens Party. A fortnight ago the Council, bv a majority decided against the imposition in the ten per cent. cut.
