The State - Department was stated on Saturday by Senator King (Democrat) to have received unfavourably a suggestion that if requested, Britain would stop the sale of silver at less than fifty cents, an ounce until alter an international silver conference. Mi King, who urged remonetisation of si 1 ve.r throughout the world expressed confidence that such a conference would he called were such a request made and Britain acquiesed. He contended that Canada, Mexico and United States would join her and silver would he maintained at that price. Tile Senator charged the action of Britain in dumping Indian silver upon the market was largely responsible for the rapid decline in price in the past two years. If England pei-sists in the policy of dumping additional silver upon the markets a further decline will fol low, he said, adding that an effort was now being made to prevent, an in ternational conference being called. President Hoover, Air King said, has indicated that lie would not call a conference because of the opposition ol some countries. The people of Canada do not support the views of the Britisl Government. It was certain Canada would attend if such a conference were called.
