He was going south along the Quay, and as lar as could he gathered from him. tne tnau lie struck came from the left hand side of the road near the waterfront. According to Calvin, when the man moved across the road, the car bore over to the left in order to pass behind and .avoid him. On the road, however, and with the car approaching, he must have changed his mind, and turned hack. With a broken wind shield, twisted left headlamp, and a dented mudguard, the car went on a short distance before pulling tin. The force of the collision lmd knocked of! the spare wheel.

Mr Galvin ran hack to the man. and then ran to the I'Ye.o Ambulance Depot nearby, to get, assistance. The man was taken to the hospital in the ambulance van. but on arrival there he was found to he dead. The night was dark, and tlie road was wet. with a light drizzle. The place where the accident happened is a dangerous one. because the Quay is extremely wide, and rite side nearer to the waterfront is ill lit. No footpath rims along the si tie.
