FAT STOCK PRICES. the sales of nu sheep and fai lambs a tlie Metropolitan Market at Addi ginu *,n Wednesday were outstanding, that of fat sheep being particularly so. For Ibis time of the scar tlu* entry c l laf sheep was heavier than any that can he recalled by men whose experience of Addington extends back thirty years. The number penned was 10000 which would lie* considered a very heavy yarding at any time. With few exr-pptionss the sheep <*aire f-rward in srlendid condition the general quality of the offering being remarkably good. Export buyers operated to a new increased schedule for ewe mutton and this had its effect throughout the sale. Ewes sold steadily at rates a shilling a head in advance of those of last week. The market f r w 1 hers was rather less steady, but the i-icrease in this section was also a slicing a head. The top price for v. ethers is the* highest since Decor, sbe* last v-'-nr.
Tlie quality ot the lambs forward was i xeeptionally good. A very large P'oporlion of the offering realised prices in the neighbourhood of £1 a head. The schedule rate for lambs has also been increased and throughout the sale prices were fully up to this new rate >and in many cases well above it. Tim advance per bead throughout the m!e was .about Is fid The yarding was very large for this late stage of the scaso 1 the total being 5300 as against 2100 j ast woe ] c>
The fat cattle entry was also considerably increased in last week’s \arding. , The offering included representatives from many places outside the province. From the opening the market was a dragging one inferior sorts meeting with very casual interest. Even the best beef failed to maintain last week’s prices, and the Oil) in values was about £1 a head over the whole sale. Veal .sold steadily at last week’s rates. A feature of tliis market was the entry of two fine lines, one from the West Coast, and one from Southland. Fat pigs sold at prices a little in advance ol those ruling last week.
