VERY COLD SNAP

CHRISTCHURCH, June S. Christchurch to-day experienced sixteen degrees of frost, the coldest for many years. FAST CABLING. i WELLINGTON, June 8. The result of the Epsom Derby wain telegraphed by Imperial and International Communications Ltd., to the following centres after the winner had passed tile post in the following times: Bombay, two seconds; Alexandria, two seconds; Hong Kong, three seconds; Adelaide, four seconds ; Smith America, five seconds.
FIRE OUTBREAK
WELLINGTON, June 9
An outbreak of fire in Dominion Confectionery Coy., in Tory Street last evening was accompanied by such thick pungent smoke that the firemen were forced to use masks to attack the seat of the blaze. The fire started in the loft of a three storey building whore •a quantity of sacks and coke were stored and these were burning when the brigade arrived. The outbreak, however, was quickly suppressed once the brigade were able to get at the seat of the trouble, with little damage to the building.

CHRISTCHURCH. June 9
An agreement was reached to-day by the Industrial Disputes Committee in a dispute between Christchurch tramways and its employees regarding hours, wages, and conditions of work. The terms of the old award have been accepted by both parties, subject to ;. reduction of ten per cent, in the gross earnings of each worker. The agreement operates from to-day, for one year.
RABBI APPOINTED
WELLINGTON. .June 8
The Rev. Solomon Katz; of New Rochelle, New York, has been appointed Rabbi of Wellington. He was form !y Assistant Minister to the Auckland Jewish Congregation in 1980. He returned to the United States, pursuing studies. He bad occupied tile position of Rabbi to communities in Alabama later moving to New Rochelle.
