At tile Presbyterian Assembly today, Rev. David Calder, Secretary of and Foreign Rible S°ciety, referred' to the work, done by the Society Jo spreading . jlie, Scriptures throughout the world. Bible Society had' sent over seven thousand copies of the -'Scriptures to lie distributed free ‘of' cost amoiignU- refugees- from the-earthquake area. Rev. T. E. Biddle. of India, also spoke in appreciation. Rev. J. Hay presented the report of the Maori Missions Committee. The report told of evidence of success of the mission being manifest in the fact that year by .year Maoris came in increasing numbers ■ seeking Baptism- for themselves and their (children, while the Sacrament of Lord's Supper is now celebrated regularly in several mission ’stations. Tul a kina College had experienced the most successful year in its career, 45 girls being in residence thoughout the year. Miss .Kinross. th o -.principal, addressed the Assembly and, deprecated - any idea, thai education was. intended 'to make Maori girls into imitating Europeans'. ,'iiiat was not desirable. There was no disgrace in going hack to the mat'if it, mea»t simply eating food in the Maori fashion, rand following Arabia customs winch wet'e without harm..! The Maoris werem.q.great people deserving of all the Iw’lp and support that tli" ehurcb could give in develop ing their splendid qualities of cl'aiac ter. Rev. .1. H. Asher seconded the report, which was unanimously adopt ed.
