MELBOURNE, June 8
When the premiers’ Conference resumed to-day, Air J. H. Seuihn (Federal Prime Minister) welcomed to the Con.erence the Opposition leaders, Sir George Pearce (of the Senate) and Mr Lyons (leader) and Air Latham (deputy-leader) of the Opposition in the House of Representatives. The new coiners became additional members of the conference, which has now been sitting for three weeks. Mr Lyons signalised his presence at the conference by asking for guarantees that tiie Commonwealth Government would abandon the inflation.policy, and, would carry out tiie economies already outlined by the coiner-' ence. He said that if these guaran-' tees were given, the Opposition would support the proposal .or the voluntary conversion of the internal debt at four per cent.
The conference received advice 1 from Sydney .that the Life Assurance' Companies have, agreed to convert their Government ,si curities at a low rate of interejst as planned by the Melbourne conference.
